How to Make Money as a Porn Star in Second Life

Today form the CEO’s desk:  I will show you the different models to make money by being a porn star in Second Life. There are different options and its up to you which path you choose. However, the most important things you need to understand first are those:

  1. Nobody will pay you for starring in a porn video
  2. You will have to help promoting the videos you are starring in

You need to realize this before even trying to enter in the Second Life porn business. If you do not believe these two essential facts you will fail, if your goal is making money as porn star in Second Life. Forget it then. Even if you think you have the best looking, most sexy avatar in the entire metaverse, you do not stand a chance! Period! End of story.

You don’t believe me? Fine, it is your time you are wasting in trying. In that case go ahead, stop reading this article and try get a paid job as a porn actor in Second Life. Once you realized I was right, come back and read the rest of this. See you later.

Ok, lets look into this a bit in more in detail.

Nobody will Pay You for Starring in a Porn Video!

Here are the reasons why nobody will pay you for starring in a porn movie:

1. Producers are models themselves

Everybody in Second Life who has the skill set to actually write storyboards, doing In-World filming and editing movies, stars himself or herself in their own movies. They do this probably for the same reason you would do it. They only get other models when the storyboard requires them or to have some more diversification in their movies.

Ask yourself this question: If you had the skills required to make good quality and engaging videos, would you hire a model or would you star in the movie yourself? Got my point?

In short: There is not much demand for models!

2. Most models do this for fun

Yes, the majority of the models, female and male, do this because it is fun to create those videos. Creating stuff is actually one of the most common reason why people joined Second Life in the first place. Videos are no exception. In other words, you are competing with models who do it for free anyway in a market with very little demand to start with.

Part of the fun is sex. I have spoken to people in-world who actually get turned on big time starring, creating and watching their own productions. They are exhibitionist basically. It gives them a kick to know that hundreds, if not thousands of people will watch them having sex.

In addition, you probably can imagine those parties where porn stars and producers come together to meet and mingle and hang out together. Just imagine about 20 to 100 naughty, exhibitionist horny porn models and producers at the same place having a party. Guess what they do there apart from listening to music and having a bit of a banter. Yes, sex!

In short: Why should they pay you when they can get others for free?

3. It is fairly easy to create a suitable ALT

ALT stands for alternative account. Somebody who has the creativity to make movies like this for example: Back Alley, has certainly enough creativity and imagination to create a suitable avatar for any production they might possibly think off. It is also way cheaper than to pay you!

In short: An ALT is a small one off investment, you are not!

4. Most producers do not make money either

They do this for fun and fame. Most do not monetize their productions at all. They are not even interested in trying. They wanna keep it a fun hobby and are not interested in making it feel like work.

In short: There is no budget to pay porn models

Do you believe me now, that nobody will pay you for starring in a video? Great, now that we have got this out of the way, lets have a closer look at my other suggestion:

Help Promoting the Videos you are Starring in!

Isn’t that the producers job? Yes it is, one would think. However most producers haven’t got the foggiest idea about marketing. That is ok! They have other skills, creativity for one and a lot of admirable patience. Marketing, especially online marketing, requires a different kind of skill set if not even a different mentality.

Almost every producer I have spoken too so far, does have a common problem: Lack of audience! What they do to reach people and to show-cast their work is two things:

  1. Uploading their machinima videos on porn tube sites
  2. Creating a blog to promote their production company and their videos

Both suck!

Lets have a look why.

1. Uploading machinima videos on porn tube sites

At the moment there are not many websites, specialized on machinima porn. The market leader at the moment is www.naughtymachinima.com. They do actually receive a lot of traffic. I did check. Their estimated amount of visitors per month is about 3.000.000 visits per month.

The problem however is that every Dick, Tom and Harry can upload any crap he produced on the site. That means a quality producer is presenting his work in a jungle of thousands of cheap crappy videos, all of them starting with aggressive and equally crap video adverts. Now let me tell you one thing out of years of experience in marketing and advertising: If you present your product next to crap, your product will be perceived as crap too even if it is not.

This is actually the reason why on our site nobody can do an initial upload of videos. We actually get them via the cloud from the producers, check them if they actually fit our quality standards and even compress each and every one of them for faster loading. This is actually not an automated process, we do this manually.

What about regular tube sites?

Forget it. People on regular tube sites like www.youporn.com are not looking for naughty machinima porn, they are looking for the real thing. The categories for 3D porn on those sites do hardly receive any traffic.

2. Creating a blog to promote their production company and their videos

They just have no idea what they are doing with that respect. Most do not even have their own domain but host those blogs on blogger or similar free services. They do not even know the very basic SEO techniques and so far I have seen only one (yes, just one) blog of a porn producer which actually has some traffic through Google search.

Its hard to rank adult content, they say. Sorry, but that is bullshit. If you know what you are doing it is as easy or as difficult as with any other content on the web. My own blog has a lot of adult content. It ranks top 10 in Google for hundreds of key-phrases and receives in access of 30.000 page views every single month. Don’t take my word for it. Check yourself how it ranks for “second life sex”, “second life rape”, “second life porn” and similar combinations or relevant search terms.

Most porn producers do hardly get more than about 500 page views per month. Blogs who’s mere existence bears relevance. They could as well be offline, it would not make a difference. Not even the blog of self-proclaimed porn queen Miss Emily does exceed a thousand visits per month, despite of having a lot of useful content on the site. Why? They simply don’t know what they are doing!

Now here comes the good news:

This is your opportunity! If you are willing, able to and dedicated to promote yourself AND the producer you work with, you all of a sudden become a valuable asset to those producers. You are no longer just yet another one who wants to become a porn star. You help them grow their audience.

You are in demand!

Do you realize that I have still not have been talked about actually how to make money as a porn star in Second Life? Correct. Before being able to make money with it you need to learn how to promote yourself. So lets look at a few options.

How to Promote Yourself as a Porn Star in Second Life

1. Use your Second Life profile

This is an easy one. Make clear on your profile that you work in the porn industry. Don’t be shy about it. Want to become a star? Then don’t be secretive about it. Tell it to people, tell your friends and tell it to everybody who pervs your profile.

In the picks section of your profile feature the regions or headquarters of the producer you work with. Put nice text and picture on it. Don’t forget to set the Slurl too.

2. Use twitter

A lot of Second Life Residents are on twitter. Create an account under your avatars name. Be explicit about what you do, share and tweet whatever you are doing and most importantly: what your producer is doing. Tweet links to the videos you are staring in AND tweet links to other productions of the company you are working with. Grow a follower base by following other residents on twitter and by sharing compelling content.

3. Create your own blog

That is the probably the best method if you are doing it right. Stay away from free blogging services. Instead register a domain, get some hosting space and most importantly: write content related to what you are doing on a regular basis.

4. Learn about SEO!

This one is essential. We will offer soon SEO classes at our main office of SLA Media. We will show you the most essential things you have to do in order to rank your content well in Google. Best is sign up for our newsletter. We will inform you when those courses take place and what topics we cover (for models registered with us those classes are free, for externals there is a small fee).

Ok, time to talk about money! You were waiting for this one. Here are your options to make money with your new fame as a porn star in Second Life:

How to Make Money as a Porn Star in Second Life

1. Escort Services

People will see you fucking. People will imagine fucking you. They will even contact you proposing to fuck with you. Thats the nature of our business. Give them what they desire and charge for it.

Think about this: How many escorts are there actually looking for clients and struggling with it? Being a well known porn star will get you inquiries. You will not have to look for clients, they will be looking for you!

2. Sell related products

Open a marketplace store. Create stuff that is related to porn. Outfits, art, animations. You do not know how to do that? No problem, find somebody who already designs that stuff and do an affiliate deal with them.

The same way you did promote yourself, you now promote those products and get a commission from the designer.

3. Put affiliate links on your blog

That is what we are doing actually at SLA Media. This is our main source of income. Look in the sidebar. You find there adverts for certain sex games. That is all we are doing, thats our business model.

It is as simple as that to make money with Second Life porn.

Have questions? Please feel free to ask in the comments, I will answer all inquiries!

I am wandering the grid for some time now meeting producers and pornstars and believe me this is true: nobody will ever pay an actor or an actress to take part in a movie (the reverse might however be true) … So better to follow the recipe proposed here, it is definitely a smart way to make money from the business.

Some of those advise are very valuable, and maybe should be sold as counselling to avoid sinking a “marché de niche”. Otherwise, you may kill an economy who could worth millions of euros in a few years

For a know it all you really aren’t eve close on the number of blog views I get and did you know I have 2 of them??
http://missemilysstudio.blogspot.com/ currently gets 4,827 views per 30 days
http://secondlifeporn.blogspot.com/ Currently gets 12,388 views per 30 days.

You should really get your facts straight maybe even watch one of my 130 movies or come to a party before pretended to know everything.

      Honey,

“Views” and “visits” are two totally different things. In addition, most traffic-counters are basically useless, because they count “hits” not even “views”. I use Google analytics to track my real traffic.

What you do with your two sites, is better than what most sites about SL are doing. I make that in a single day.

      Period.

And it converts into real cash. How much money do you make with your blogs?

It’s hard to put a number on that. My businesses in SL are intertwined.
I have a store, MP Store pays for my 1,000L per day homestead, I make movies on.
in-world store & group join fee pays for my 1/4 Region my club and in-world store is on.
My tiers are a combined 50K per month that is all made in world and still leave me money to by cloths.
oh and I have 3 sponsor that are happy to give me anything in their store (which I don’t take advantage of enough)

So idk like 70,000L per month

But heres the thing I’m not in SL to make money, sure it’s great to not have to use my RL funds but you are infatuated on money, and really don’t get it!!

When I release new items to my store I consistently make L$120,000 per month, but what I enjoy doing is making movies not money.

How much do I make on my blogs? Well I have ads on it for my store, if you looked at them you would see that, but I really don’t know what they are worth.

Maybe you should talk to me sometime before prejudging me. Many of the things you write about porn are fake news. 1/2 truths. or alternative facts!!!

And if your getting as many “Views” and “visits” here as you claim, why do the 3 movies at the top of this “home” page have less that 300 views in 2 months?? Come on if your getting huge numbers more than that would click those movies just by mistake

          Hello Emily

I am not ONLY in SL to make money. I do things for fun too.

However, I do have a business. The very nature of a business is too make money. It is that easy to understand, really. This is the difference between a hobby and a business. The distinction between amateur and professional is, an amateur does it for fun first and the professional for maximum profit.

I never judged any of your work. In fact I saw some of the movies and would not mind to show-cast them on this website (just like you do on naughtymachinima.com). For free of course.

In my article I was referring to the quality and reach of blogs (including but not exclusively yours). I know how to analyze websites and website traffic. It is actually part of my RL job. You may have noticed, that I actually applauded the content on your site. I merely was referring to the lack of online marketing knowledge of sl amateur producers (amateur is not a negative term in this context at all).

If my comment did offend you, because it made you think, I was criticizing your work as a porn producer, I sincerely apologize. In fact as soon as I made my first self-made porn movie I MIGHT have room for comment on your videos. So far I have not made a single one myself. So I am not a “know it all”, but I do have expert knowledge about search engine marketing.

          Talking about my traffic.

I was not referring to the traffic of THIS website on which we discuss right now. Slamachinima.com is a new venture, which still needs to build up content like movies, blogpost, user comments and inbound links and so on. It is actually far away from having high organic traffic, simply because its brand new. I did buy some traffic to get it started (about 1.000 clicks per day), but that doesn’t really count, because paid traffic is just that: Buying clicks via redirects and pop up impressions. That kind of traffic does not convert good into sales.

The main site is this one:
          http://www.second-life-adventures.com

There we are talking serious traffic. This didn’t happen over night either. It is the result of several years of blogging, guest blogging, SEO, tweets and the likes. In my free time that is.

The plan is, to repeat the success of sla (stands for second life adventures) on this site. What we want to achieve is giving second life porn producers an alternative platform to naughtymachinima.com to show the best of their work to a considerable audience. I mean lets face it, what is porn worth, which hardly anyone looks at?

Our USP to NM is quality. We don’t want to show every piece of rubbish like naughtymachinima.com (who depend on paid traffic by the most part, btw).

I do understand your “business model”. It reminds me a bit to the gold rush in Alaska. Not the ones who where seeking gold made the money, but the ones who sold them the shovels and guns. Porn stars to be need to look the part. Clever.

What is advertising on your blog worth?

To an advertiser nothing, because the site simply has not enough traffic to be worth their while. To yourself it might be worth a lot. If you can track how many sales you make on marketplace to people coming from via those adverts, you can easily calculate how much they are worth to you.

          Piece?

Ha, a bit more about traffic stats. Love that topic.

Don’t get this the wrong way, it is just to help you getting a realistic perception. You are most likly tracking your sites with the blogger stats system. I am using Google analytics.

Now I have some bad news for you:

Blogger tracks every single hit on your site. That includes spam bots and search engine crawlers. In another words: A big portion of that traffic are bots not humans. Google analytics filters those out. Hence when I talk about x views, its actually humans. Your numbers are humans and bots together. Hence the reason analytics software shows about 1.900 visitors per month for your site. That is the reason, I do not take ANY numbers from free blogging services serious at all.

It’s what we Second Lifer refer to as a “freebie”. Professional blogging starts with registering your own domain, your own hosting and using a professional tracking software. Everthing else is just that: A freebie for a bit of fun.

Sorry, but those are the facts.
      Here an article about this:
      http://morefromyourblog.com/why-do-google-analytics-stats-differ-from-blogger-stats/

Here a more realistic estimation of your real month traffic:
      http://slamachinima.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/emily.png

That is visits, not uniques. So yes I did get the facts right. You did not. You got fooled by blogger stats.

Oh, yes I might take you on for that party invite. For fun that is.

      Carol
